Let’s put a stop to cyberbullying by putting a stop to
bullying first. We all know how it
starts, a person not liking the other person for the way they dress, if they
wear glasses, if they are smarter than they are and so on. Then they will start the cyberbullying, they
think they will not get caught because they are sending it through an email, on
a chat site, or a social media site. If
you know the person doing the bullying block them, if you are the bully limit
the child access to technology, and always know your child’s online world, like
their login information and passwords.
Making The Family Aware of the Problem
Don’t be afraid to speak up and tell someone. Make both of the family member involved with
the issues going on with the children.
Don’t be afraid to speak up for your child in this time of need for
them, show them that you are worried and care for the well-being. Set up a meeting with the families to get it
resolved, if that doesn’t work involve the principle or the police if it gets
physical. If it still doesn’t get
resolved take it to the board of education, if it happens at the school.
What to Tell You Child
That it’s not their fault for being bullied or cyberbullied. Know when to walk away for the situation
before it accelerates into a bigger problem.
Don’t respond to the cyberbully, don’t respond to the emails, the social
media or anything they send you. Always
save the evidence, even if it is too embarrassing to show them. If you see someone else getting bullied know what
to look for and handle the situation. Never
show the bully that you are afraid of them and they don’t have the power over
you. And always don’t be afraid to go
get a teacher, a principle or another adult to get help. That there is always a person willing to help
out in any situation or a web-site to get answers if you don’t what to say
anything.
What is the school's role in this?
"When schools try and get involved by disciplining the student for cyberbullying actions that took place off-campus and outside of school hours, they are often sued for exceeding their authority and violating the student's free speech right." How to Protect Yourself
Make the most of the privacy setting in your computer with Facebook and other social media website that you are going on. Make sure you alone have your friend able to see what you are posting on your pages. Never except friend request from people you don’t know, if they send you one go to their age and look around if you can. If you can’t than don’t except, sometimes they are just trying to get your information.
Always think before you post anything. Like if you leave or going on vacation, how long you will be gone and when you are coming home. What you type stays on there forever and can’t be erased.
Keep personal information personal. Never give out addresses, phone numbers, school, or credit card information. If they want that send them a personal message.
