WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP PREVENT CYBERBULLYING?

Protect yourself:

Make sure you make the most out of the privacy setting on the web, mainly on Facebook and social media sites.  Make sure your friends only see what you post.  ALWAYS think before you post anything, what you type always stays on the web, it never can be erased.  Keep personal information like address, phone number, school, credit card number, etc.—online.  Never leave your passwords on your computer to get hacked but, keep them on a flash drive.

Join the fight:  Educate yourself, read whatever you can read to know what it’s about and how to stop it.  Educate others on what you went through.  Speak out to others on what you went through, or if you know someone that is being cyberbullied or bullied.

Tips to Help Stop Cyberbullying for kids and teens.

Know that it is never your fault, nobody deserves to be bullied/cyberbullied.  Don’t respond or retaliate, this show them that they have the control over you, walk away.  ALWAYS save the evidence to show someone what they are doing.  ConnectSafely.org/cyberbullying shows how to capture screen shot form your phone and computer.  Reach out for help never go through it alone, if you see someone try to help in any way you can.  But don’t get yourself into trouble along with the bully.

As a parent always listen to your child, work with your child on taking control of the situation and see if your child can resolve the situation on their own but, if they need help lend a hand.

A bully starts with a person that is different from them.  People get bullied because of the way they look, if they are gay, if they are smarter than others, if they wear glasses, if they are shorter or taller, and just because the bully wants to bully you for no reason.  I was teased a lot because I wear glasses, so I lost them, threw them away, and put them under a car so they would get ran over.  I did everything I could to get rid of them, which I screwed myself in the long run.  If the person is getting bullied so much and nobody steps in to help, instead they will sit there and watch them get bullied.

There is a video on YouTube that was going around for a while where there was a blind person getting bullied, the kid was punching him, swearing at him telling to get the F*** out of here and another kid stepped in and knocked the bully down. You can only take it for so long before they turn on the bully.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbaX90xGm0Q

Now there in a whole new thing going around Cyberbullying, this is harder to deal with because they can do it in secret.  In less the bully doesn’t pay attention and sign it or use their own email address, you have proof. There should be more done about this then what there is.  I see a lot of website talking about what Cyberbullying is, what can be done to help it stop and what the signs are for the bullying.  I mean they get in school suspension, suspension if continues and the expulsion but I think there should be more serious consequence.

I have seen my share of bullying when I was in school, we never had the cyberbullying yet computer where not a big thin yet.  I wasn’t a bully but I was the one who stood up against the bullies to protect the people they were bullying.  Teacher had more control of the situation back then, but not now.  The teacher talks to them, they straighten up for a few days and go right back to it.  The students walk all over the teacher and the students know that, so they can harass, physically touch the other student, and with the computers, each student has their own laptop.  The principle monitors their activity, but they don’t have control over the emails and that is where the cyberbully’e don’t get caught, in less the student turns it in.

The web site americanspcc.org, they give you great tips to stop bullying.  1.  Become a friend to the being bullied.  2.  Tell an adult, teacher, or coach if you are being bullied.  3. Help the person to get out of the situation of being bullied.  4.  Set a good example and don’t bully others. and 5.  Don’t give the bully an audience, standing and cheering for the bully is wrong.

Never give into the bully, take a stand and show them you are not afraid of them.  Showing them your weakness only encourages them more to bully you.  I don’t mean to fight back, in less it goes too far, use your words, not you fists.

Cyber-bullying Lets Get It Under control

Cyberbullying/Bullying

Cyberbullying is becoming more and more a problem.  It starts with bullying, the face to face contact, but the person can find a safe place to go to so they can get away from the person.  Cyberbullying is 24 hours a day 7 days a week and 365 days a year.  They can be anonymous in less they mess up and use their own email address.  They can use a computer, cell phone, by using social media like facebook, text, messages, chat and websites.

The effects of being cyberbullying and bullying.  The person may use drugs and alcohol, start skipping school to get away from the person, experience being bullied in person, and have a very lower self-esteem.  If it goes too far they person my kill them self, depending on what the person types to you.

“The 2013-2014 School Crime Supplement (National Center for Education Statistics and Bureau of Justice Statistics) indicates that 7% of students in grades 6–12 experienced cyberbullying.”
“The 2013 Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance Survey finds that 15% of high school students (grades 9-12) were electronically bullied in the past year.”
“Research on cyberbullying is growing. However, because kids’ technology use changes rapidly, it is difficult to design surveys that accurately capture trends” (stopbullying.gov)

There is way to prevent it, monitor what your child is doing online, I know they my complain about it but tell them you are looking out for their best interest.   Give them limited time on the computer, know what their passwords are, and encourage them that they can talk to you about anything.  If they are changing their behavior, like not wanting to go to school, there is a problem and talk to them about it.

I chose to do cyberbullying/bullying because of my two boys.  As I have said before a few times my boys are getting bullied.  But for my oldest it went from bullying to cyberbullying and the student didn’t get into that much trouble for it.  I still have the emails that the student sent him.  The student only got suspended for ten-fifteen days for what he did.  I think it might have been a little longer because it was right before Christmas break.  Which I didn’t think was right, but the student was removed from all the class he had with my son and is not allowed to have any contact with him at all or he will be expelled from the school and but into juvenile detention until he is eighteen.

This all started in fourth grade with my oldest with this student and continued on.  The fifth grade teacher finally helped me with it and when my son went the sixth grade the student wasn’t there so we thought it was all done and over with.  But half way through sixth grade the student came back and picked up right where he left off.  And then in seventh grade the student went to cyberbullying.  I finally had enough and took it to one of my son teachers and then to the principle and they both helped.  Hopefully it is done for good this time.

Yes this is something really close to the heart because the student sent my son to the hospital three time throughout this whole ordeal.

Reading each other essays was changeling for me.  I don’t really know how to do an essay that well, so I didn’t really know how to comment on others.  I took some from my own essay the WRIT commented on and used that.  I did notice that the word you were used a lot.  I did comment on that.  Also that the page number with the last name wasn’t on a couple of them.  I didn’t have it on mine either but I know I did it, but also my mind was somewhere else this past week.  The others had the four pages or so and I didn’t see that there was a page limit.  I went back through and read everything I could think of and I didn’t find anything.  Some also didn’t have a thesis statement.  I thought I had one but I guess it wasn’t good enough.  Reading others somewhat helped me with mine, what to add, what to take out and how to re-word things.  Essay are not the easiest thing to right, mainly when I went to school I didn’t have to do them.  I tried my best to give feedback on others that I thought were wrong.  Most of everyone’s essay is about clean water that I read.  The harm it does to people who have to go out at night for peace, but have to worry about if the women and children would get raped, taken or just get a sickness from the dirty water.
